Retired Pediatrician
Retired High School Math Teacher
NASM CPT
I’ve worn many hats throughout the years. I was always active with sports growing up - ice hockey, soccer, swimming. School got in the way in college and then onto medical school at Georgetown University.
While serving as a pediatrician in the Air Force in California I earned my black belt in Bok Fu Kung Fu and became an instructor until moving back to New England. I caught the hockey bug again and played men’s league hockey for the next 20 years.
After having retired from medicine, my son’s high school calculus class needed a teacher. Fifteen years later I retired again after teaching all levels of math at Gardner High School. But I had changed more than I wanted. As I got older, I slowed down. And the weight came on as well as other medically related problems.
I decided that I had to get my health back so I could do all the things we all want to do - be active, enjoy family time, keep up with my kids.
Started losing weight by diet and found it wasn’t enough. I needed to be active.
Everything changed when I discovered what Nutrition ion-CrossFit 696 had to offer. As I attended classes, I became interested in all the science behind movement. I started reading - books on human movement, strength training and aging while maintaining a high quality of life.
I found that these changes in my life have made a huge difference in all aspects of my life. I want to share that knowledge with others who are experiencing many of the same challenges I had and still have.
The gym is definitely my happy space. I look forward to every workout or class - seeing the friendly faces of others on the same journey! I am excited for this next phase of life - and want to help others experience that same excitement.
